SHANEKIA WILLIAMS IS TEACHER OF THE YEAR AT SUMTER COUNTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
For many years, recognition of the Teacher of the Year in Sumter County Schools has highlighted the greatness of a teacher from each of    the schools. Once the applications are completed, the most recent Teachers of the Year are the first readers of the applications. After scoring the documents, the top three are then read by three retired teachers, administrators, school board members and civic leaders.

At Sumter County Elementary, Mrs. Shanekia T. Williams was selected by    her peer group of certified teachers. Also a Georgia Certified Teacher, Mrs. Williams was born in Ameircus and married Brandon Williams. They have on son, Bralyn Williams. As her educational career    began, Mrs. Williams was a long-time substitute teacher for one year attending Savannah State University for her freshman year and then obtaining her Bachelor and Masters Degree at Albany State University. In June of 2012, she will complete her Specialist Degree in Mathematics. She has now been teaching for three years in the areas of    math, science and social studies.

The 2004 graduate of Sumter County High School, Mrs. Williams has attended schools in Sumter County. Mrs. Williams praises her past association with leaders in Sumter County Schools. "Dr. Renee Mays was    my 4th and 5th grade teacher and is now Assistant Principal at my school. I love working for principal Mrs. Sharon Marcus. SCES is truly    the BEST," volunteered the proud young teacher.

As she shares her belief in Sumter County, Mrs. Williams was born in Americus and raised in DeSoto. She enjoys singing and is a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Leesburg. Mrs. Williams has experience in working with both regular education and Gifted Education students. She has extensive association with leadership and club sponsorship at Sumter County Elementary. "I enjoy working with students and seek to provide encouragement to them as they face the challenges of our world    today. I encourage them to be a member of different worthwhile organizations and build a network of good friends and associates. We have great students in Sumter County and Sumter County Schools," smiled Mrs. Williams.

Concerning her past educational experiences, Mrs. Williams is quick to    share, " Many leaders in the Sumter County Schools district once served as a teacher or administrator of mine. Ms. Stacy Mack, Dr. Renee' Mays, Mr. Donnie Smith, Mr. Matthew Cullifer, Mrs. Victoria Harris, and Mrs. M. Thomas were good teachers and mentors. I learned from the BEST. I am very thankful for the opportunities that have been    created for me and a very special thanks to Dr. Valerie Roberts, my first principal and boss, for believing in me and always being there for me."

"The certified teachers at Sumter County Elementary have again made a great selection as their Teacher of the Year. I look forward to more great celebrations with Mrs. Williams," said Principal Sharon Marcus.
