FORMER AND CURRENT PRINCIPALS CELEBRATE LEGACY OF CHEROKEE ELEMEMNTARY
CHEROKEE ELEMENTARY CELEBRATION PROCLAIMS ACCOMPLISHMENTS Guests attending the Legacy of Learning program at Cherokee Elementary were presented a chronological memory book of photos and stories about Cherokee's proud heritage from 1964-2012. Additionally, at each guest's seat, a program of events was placed. On one side of the program was the three act outline of the presentation of the Core Knowledge Music Core, the Physical Education Core, and the Art Core Clubs, for meal's program.
On the reverse side of the program was a concise listing of accomplishment of Cherokee Elementary: 2002-2004 - Reading Excellence Act Reform (1.2 million procured); 2004-2009 - Reading First Initiative (2.6 million procured); 2005-2006- Implementation of Core Knowledge Curriculum and Core Knowledge Academy;2006-2009 - Increase Math Student Performance Initiative - Standards-based Mathematics, and Georgia Leadership Initiative School Improvement -Promising Practice;2009-2010- Title I Distinguished School and Core Knowledge Official School and Visitation Site; 2009-2101 - Title I Distinguished School and 2011-2012-Honored at the Core Knowledge Conference in Orlando, Florida.
In her closing remarks reviewing the proud days at Cherokee Elementary, Dr. Wanda Jackson, Principal of Cherokee, thanked over 150 invited guests, community leaders, school volunteers and school board members and administrators for their long-time support of Cherokee. "Cherokee's function as a campus of Sumter County will change next year. The proud memories will continue to keep Cherokee Elementary alive as a legacy of learning in Sumter County; too many of you and other stakeholders have enjoyed their times at Cherokee."
