FFA ATTENDS LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
LOCAL FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA ATTEND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Members of the Americus Sumter South FFA Chapter recently attended the Georgia FFA Success Conference held March 2-3, 2012, at the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center. The theme of the personal development event for 10-12th grade FFA members was “The Pursuit.” During the two-day conference, members were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and challenged to expand their leadership abilities. Students attended sessions that focused on maintaining a positive attitude, opportunities available through the FFA, making wise decisions, and the importance of service. Members of the Georgia FFA state officer team led the conference. FFA State Vice President and conference presenter, Cassidy Gilliard, said "The Success Conference is an incredible opportunity and enables FFA members to develop the skills necessary to be effective leaders within their chapter, school and community. We hope these students will utilize the skills they learn at the conference to become life-long leaders." Members of the Americus Sumter South FFA chapter attending the conference included: Savannah Mock, Rose McKinney, Bridgett Hamlin, Paige Daughtry, Arthur Peavy, Mickey Griffin, Oscar Chavira, Tharon McClary, Josh Findley, Jantuan Twiggs, Chris Harper, Eric Dixon- FFA Advisor, Jimmy Wyatt- FFA Alumni President, Donna Wyatt FFA Alumni Secretary, and Patti Ingle FFA Alumni member.
With more than 31,000 members, the Georgia FFA Association is the third largest state association in the nation. The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, changed its name in 1988 to reflect the growth and diversity of agriculture. The mission of the FFA organization is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
