BRIGHT STAR TOURING THEATER BRING HISTORY ALIVE AT SUMTER COUNTY ELEMENTARY

Celebrating their ninth anniversary of providing professional theatre to young audiences, history was brought alive in the cafeteria of Sumter County Elementary School. With a two-member cast, a brief history of the dreams and goals of Dr. Martin Luther King was shared before a simple, yet changing hand-crafted backdrop set. Touring this year from California to North Carolina, Florida to Michigan and all states in between, the touring company is expecting to provide more than 850 performances to young audiences in nearly every imaginable venue. Actors from across the nation join the production team. Featuring three new shows, the traveling theater are pleased to begin their westward expansion.

Bright Star Touring Theater was launched to provide high caliber, professional theater at an affordable and all-inclusive price. Their objective has long been to make theater as accessible as possible – and to reach as many young people as possible.
Each season is comprised of literary, curriculum- and character-education based classics that are as entertaining as they are educational. From historical productions like Heroes of the Underground Railroad to character-education based works like The Lady of Bullyburg and Sadie’s Spectacular Saturday, Bright Star offers something for everyone.

The founder of Bright Star Touring Theatre, David Ostergaard, is no stranger to the theatre world. Committed to professionalism, he has assembled a talented and dedicated team of actors, directors and designers.

This winter, Black History Tours were launched. With 8 shows on 4 different tours, 5 of them are perfect for black history celebrations.    Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Dr. King and Heroes of the Underground Railroad are all part of the acclaimed shows.
