RETAILERS GENEROUSLY SUPPORT SUMTER COUNTY SCHOOLS' TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR RECOGNITION
As the importance of recognition of excellence in Sumter County Schools increases, so does the pro-active support for these recognition programs. For years, recipients of the Teachers of the Year, from each school, have received monetary gifts from Citizens Bank of Americus and one accompanying gift from local supportive merchants. Some years ago, the Staff Members of the Year were added to the evening of recognition of excellence in Sumter County Schools. Suggested by Superintendent, Dr. Roy Brooks, a similar door prize gift was to be presented along with the monetary gift presentation by each school principals.

With visitation to local businesses, and in spite of the economy, no requested gift was denied. The evening's supporters had increased to include The Citizens Bank of Americus and 32 local retail supporters. For the evening celebration, Rick Whaley and Citizens Bank of Americus, donated $4,281 for partial coverage of the cost of the meal, $200 for each TOTY school's representative and $1000 for the Sumter County Schools' Teacher of the Year. Each TOTY and Staff Member of the Year also received two door prizes of product or service, totaling $981.Door prize donations for winners included:
SWGA Fitness, Plains Inn and Antiques, The Roman Oven, CVS Pharmacy, Med Spa of Americus, Walgreen's Drugs, US Beauty Plaza, George The Tailor, The Maze, CVS Pharmacy, J&J Oil, Jerkin's Heating and Air, Mom's Kitchen, Hibbitt's Sports, Forsyth Bar and Grill, Al's Men's and Women’s Apparel, Modern Studio, Wood's Swinging Wings, Goo Goo Express Car Wash, Stuart and Pam Perry of Perry Wellness Center, and Mr. Bill Perry and Chevron Oil.

Words of thanks were offered to these supporters at the Teacher of the Year program on November 16th at The Pope Center on the Campus of South Georgia Technical College.
