TOP FIVE READERS AT SUMTER COUNTY ELEMENTARY ENJOY NAME RECOGNITION
TOP 5 READERS AT SUMTER COUNTY ELEMEMTARY ENJOY NAME RECOGNITION The students at Sumter County Elementary School are in an ongoing competition to have their name displayed on the Top 5 Readers List as a part of their 25 Books/Million Words Campaign. The Top 5 Readers List displays the names of the students who have read the highest number of books and words for the month, according to grade level. The competition is close and the top readers are identified weekly. This week, the Top 5 Readers for 3rd grade are: Myla McCuller – 27 books, Samiya Kinchens-26 books, Cameron Walton – 23 books, Kamelia Williams-Thornton – 23 books, and Brianna Page – 22 books. The Top 5 Readers for 4th grade are: Kirby Perry - 321,340 words, Gavyn Maxwell – 283,405 words, Mani Ghimire – 181,796 words, Adrianna Daniel – 128,787 words, and Aaliyah McGhee -115,326 words. The Top 5 Readers for 5th grade are: Nancia Hall -1,083,934 words, Nicholas Fross – 730,491, Melinda Busman -255,070, Riley Veal – 144,800, and Colby Felton – 135,409.
The competition is one way of providing incentive for the students to meet the Georgia Performance Standards in reading for the respective grade levels. “We are very proud of our top readers this week and look forward to learning who the top readers will be next week,” said Mrs. Lezley Anderson, Assistant Principal. “Our media specialist is key to making this program a success.”
