THE ACADEMY CHOIR PERFORMS FOR STUDENTS AT NORTH CAMPUS
THE ACADEMY CHOIR PERFORMS AT AMERICUS-SUMTER NORTH CAMPUS To celebrate Black History Month and the creative impact of African-Americans in music, the Academy Choir of Americus-Sumter High North Campus performed during all luncheon blocks. They sang "He Reigns" by Kirk Franklin and "We are the World" by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. The songs were sung in honor of Black History Month and to give the rising high school students an idea of the new chorus class offered at South Campus. The class will incluse extensive study of African American Music. The class is performance-based and explores popular African American Music. Composers ranging from artist such as "The King of Ragtime" - Scott Joplin and "Father of the Blues" - WC Handy, to contemporary artists such as gospel performer/composer Kirk Franklin and pop stars like Michael Jackson are personalities discussed and performed in the class. Soloist in "We are the World" included Savannah Mock, Chris Thomas, Kendrica Smith, and Kiara Wallace. Hughes Pope played the drums for "He Reigns".
