Sumter County Schools host friends from Japan

ARRIVING FROM JAPAN TO AMERICUS:  Sumter County School system is hosting a contingent of high school students, teachers, and city officials from Konu and Myoshi City, Japan on a whirlwind tour into the heart and soul of south Georgia.  Pictured above, Kazutoshi Masuda, the Mayor of Miyoshi City, holds up a shirt he had made for his arrival into town. On their five day stay, twenty-five students and seven adults will tour the Georgia Capital Building with Representative Mike Cheokas and Georgia Speaker of the House David Ralston; visit Sumter County schools and area businesses, be guests for a dinner presented by the Shriner's Club in Americus, and have a special meeting with President Jimmy Carter in Plains. The Sumter County School system is placing the twenty-five students in the homes of area host families. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the international exchange program, which also sends Sumter County school children to Japan for a unique educational opportunity
