VONTRAVIS MONTS IS 2012 VALEDICTORIAN OF AMERICUS SUMTER HIGH SCHOOL SOUTH CAMPUS

Vontravis Monts' Student Profile at Americus-Sumter High South Campus is a leading indicator of student greatness. To be cited as Valedictorian of the Graduating Class of 2012 is the most recent honor for this graduate. Monts has received the Certificate of Achievement from the Carnegie Melon University, been accepted at Georgia Tech, has obtained the honor of being a Senior Superlative, and received a Perfect Math Score on the Georgia High School Graduation Test.


In addition to outstanding academic honors, Monts made time for extracurricular activity involvement. He was a member of the high school math team, secretary of the Beta Club, a member of the high school Science Team, a member of the Americus-Sumter Chamber Achievers/Youth Leadership and a member of Technology Student Association.


Vontravis Monts was awarded the
Georgia Certificate of Merit, Top Scholar Award 2009-2011,  Academic Excellence Awards from Sumter County Board of Education, and overall Academic Excellence Award from Chamber of Commerce 2006-2011. Additional honors for Monts: Chosen to serve on Superintendent's Student Cabinet, inclusion in the official 2011 & 2012 United States Achievement Academy National Yearbook, chosen candidate for Boys State program, nominated for the National Youth Leadership State Conference 2007-2010, was a member of Who’s Who Among High School Students, has been chosen to attend the Valedictorian Reception at the Governor’s Mansion, and was recognized at the Academic Signing Reception at the Sumter County Board of Education.

 The 2012 Valedictorian was the Central Georgia Youth of the Year winner, had his poetry published in the 2010 Golden Edition, was winner in the VFW Voice of Democracy Essay contest, was a finalist in the Gwendolyn K. Butler Scholarship Award, and was a consistent member of the Principal's Honor Roll.

To broaden his exposure in the Americus and Sumter County community, Monts was a Volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club of Americu and involved in Work-Base Learning at local business, Star Racing. In the fall, Vontravis will be enrolling in Georgia Institute of Technology to continue his academic excellence. At the recent Honors Day at Americus-Sumter County High School South, Vontravis was recognized as Valedictorian of the 2012 Graduating Class and received an additional award for his growing collection.
