AMERICUS-SUMTER HIGH BAND MEMBERS TRAVELS TO CHICAGO
On April 26th, members of the Americus Sumter High School Band stepped on a bus for a 4 day adventure to the Windy City of Chicago. This adventure allowed them to see all of the amazing attractions of the city such as the Shedd Aquarium, the Navy Pier, Millennium Park, Field Museum, and the Willis Tower Skydeck. They even stepped back in time and took their very own Gangster Tour, learning all about the history of the most notorious gangsters in Chicago's history. Several students faced their fear of heights and walked out onto the Willis Tower Ledge, at 1,353 feet up. The Ledge’s glass boxes extend out 4.3 feet from the skyscraper’s Skydeck on the 103rd floor, providing never-before-seen views of the city. This four day trip ended with a once in a lifetime performance at the Field Museum where members of our Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble performed for numerous visitors from around the world. It was an amazing performance and one of the best performances of the day. Our band was complimented several times by various people as being "one of the nicest and well behaved groups they had ever seen!" Ms Hughes and the band wants to thank everyone for their support and helping to provide this wonderful and unique opportunity for the band students at Americus Sumter County High School.
