KIDS UNDER CONSTRUCTION SHOWCASES TRANSITION CHANGES FOR THREE SUMTER COUNTY SCHOOLS As the viewership for the popular television partnership between Sumter County Schools and Georgia Southwestern State University increases, the most recent taping of KIDS UNDER CONSTRUCTION shared extensive information about the student population and grade-level transition between Cherokee Elementary, Sarah Cobb Elementary and Staley Middle Schools. Due to decreasing student enrollment and building age, Cherokee Elementary will be closed as a Sumter County School. Already, portions of Cherokee are being used for the Head Start Program of Sumter County. On the first segment of the program, Dr. Wanda Jackson, Principal of Cherokee, assured viewers and stakeholders, "The proud legacy of Cherokee Elementary will not be forgotten. Because Cherokee is the oldest school building in Sumter County Schools, pride by many former students will continue to recall the fun and exciting days enjoyed by many students," said Dr. Jackson.
On independent segments of the show, all three administrators assured viewers that "principal-partnership" meetings began in January 2012. On segment one, Dr. Jackson, delivered the graphic profile of the five-year improvement plan for Sumter County Schools, as well as the long-term plans for building site modifications and improvements. "This was a good presentation by these three affected school principals. I know our viewers will be better informed about these future changes. The plans are exciting for Sumter County Schools and future growth as we will become one of the highest achieving rural school districts in Georgia. We invite all citizens and stakeholders to visit a Sumter County School and enjoy the quality of student learning and campus life found at each school," said the show's host and Assistant Principal at Sumter County Middle School, Mr. Matthew Cullifer.
KIDS UNDER CONSTRUCTION can be enjoyed each Tuesday and Thursday on GSW Mediacom analog channel 16 at noon, 4 and 8 p.m. It can also be viewed on Mediacom digital cable channel 82-1. The show is networked on the GSW website at gsw.edu and local cable provider, Citizens Cable of Leslie.
