 TWO AMERICUS-SUMTER FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA (FFA) MEMBERS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS

 On February 11, 2012, Americus-Sumter High School FFA President,  Mickey Griffin and FFA Vice-President, Oscar Chavira traveled to the Tulsa School of Welding in Jacksonville, Florida, to compete for scholarships. Both Mickey and Oscar returned home with $500.00 scholarships and many welding supplies for their outstanding accomplishments! Oscar is the son of Mr. And Mrs. Silvia and Oscar Chavira of Americus and Mickey is the son on Mr. And Mrs. Mickey and Annie Griffin of Americus.

 “Both students practiced very hard for this competition. They received much intensive coaching by Mr. Jimmy Wyatt, FFA Alumni President, which was a professional welder as well. Both of these students will attend the Tulsa School of Welding this fall and provide their future employers with the skills and leadership that is highly sought in today’s competitive workforce," says Eric Dixon, Americus-Sumter Agriculture Education teacher and FFA Advisor.”
