SUMTER COUNTY ELEMENTARY SHOWCASES PROGRAMS FOR SUMTER COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION
Citizens who attended the monthly meeting of the Sumter County Board of Education, on Thursday, December 8, 2011, entered the Central Office at 100 Learning Lane to the cheers and pom-pom arches of the Sumter County Elementary Spirit Team. The festive decor of the entrance foyer set the pace for the evening of information and exciting productions by students of the showcased school. Like an art gallery, student work was displayed on easels. Guests were led by a refreshment table to another display of information about the school. At the end of the entrance hall, chairs and a large screen had been placed for the expected overflow of supporters. Divider walls between board rooms A, B, and C, had been opened to provide additional seating for visitors. Despite the space and chairs, only standing room remained. Nearly the entire faculty of SCES attended the meeting, along with family and friends of the students involved. After the moment of silence and Pledge to the American Flag, Board Chair, Mrs. Edith Green, called on Superintendent Roy Brooks for his monthly report. After tribute and presentation of a UGA hat to Associate Superintendent, Mr. Donnie Smith, the showcase of Sumter County Elementary School began.
For the showcase, students demonstrated tumbling exercises, the beginner band played, the chorus sang and several of the clubs of SCES were presented. Clubs at Sumter County Elementary provide additional enrichment to students. They meet with their selected clubs once a month. The featured groups included K-Kids (a partnership with the Kiwanis Club), the College Club, the Spirit Team, the Tumblers, the Junior Beta Club, the Student Ambassadors, the Gifted Education program, the Chorus, and Beginner Band.
School Principal, Mrs. Sharron Marcus, closed the program saying, "Thank you all for coming and seeing the greatness of Sumter County Elementary School. Tonight's presentations are only a glimpse of what is happening for our students. All of you are invited to come by our school and enjoy more information and a visit with students and classes."
At the end of the showcase presentation, Board Chair Green ordered a brief recess for students and adults to meet and celebrate Sumter County Elementary School together.
Here, members of the SCES Chorus share a song and routine from their upcoming program for the visitors, led by the school's chorus and band director, Ms. Andrea Nichols.
