CHEROKEE STUDENTS ARE FINALISTS IN ART CONTEST

CHEROKEE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS ARE SELECTED AS FINALISTS IN THE MCGRAW-HILL ART CONTEST

Students at Cherokee Elementary have been selected as finalists for their entry in the McGraw-Hill " This is MY MATH"Cover Art Contest sponsored by McGraw-Hill School Education. Cherokee students in K-5 competed with students throughout the United States who entered their art in the on line contest. Winning artwork may be published in the "My Math" program materials and displayed in the Museum of Math. Students from Cherokee submitted a photo and an essay that shows and describes "What Math Means to Me". Cherokee students dressed as a pilot, a doctor, a policewoman, a chef, a nurse, and a patient to emphasize that proficiency math is important in all areas of life. Part of the judging is based on the number community votes for each finalist. Our community is encouraged to cast a vote online for the first grade entry from Americus entitled "Math for Life". Finalists' entries will be posted on Http://mymath.shycast.com on November 15th through November 27th, 2011 to be viewed by the general public who will be asked to vote for their favorite entry in each of the 6 grade categories. Cherokee students would appreciate your votes! Pictured in the finalist entry is: Brooklyn Hinton, Shekierra Jones, Tyric Leverette, Karounga Keita, Jelea Livermon, and Malorie Green who are all first graders in Mrs. Hammack's class at Cherokee Elementary.
