STALEY MIDDLE SCHOOL FATHER-SON DAY
A.S. Staley Middle School recently held their 1st Annual Father-Son Day event. The theme for this event was “Man Up.”  This father-son affair was hosted by all of the male staff members of Staley Middle School.  The day began at the Sign-In table with Dr. Gerald Cole who registered the fathers and sons, then the men moved to the Meet &Greet area where they were greeted by Mr. Joshua Hicks who had them to prepare name tags, pick up snacks, and move to the cafeteria for the opening session.  Mr. Martin Mitchell, Program Chair, gave a heartfelt welcome followed by Mr. Tony Willis, Program Co-Chair, who gave the purpose of the father-Son Day event, and direction for the events of the day.  The father-Son event offered informational sessions designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for success in school and in the community.  Break-out sessions included Men’s Health (Mr. Marcus Johnson-Phoebe Sumter); Dress for Success (Mr. Al Hurley-Al’s Men’s and Ladies Apparel); Respecting Women (Mr. Kevin Pless-Sumter Youth Detention Center); Department of juvenile Justice (Mr. Dexter Hawkins), and Father-Son Pictures along with a game session (Mr. Frank Latimore- Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church).  Each session was informational and provided welcoming tips.  Every father and son walked away from the Dress for Success Session with a tie.  Fathers and sons were also able to win a gift certificate for a tie set.  Every session provided a wealth of knowledge.  After the fun-filled informational sessions, everyone moved to the cafeteria for lunch.  The Americus Shrine Club and Noble Warren Bruce grilled and served lunch.  Prior to lunch being served the group of men heard a profound speech from Guest Speaker Mr. Kimothy Hadley, Principal of SCMS.  The day’s event culminated with the father-son Basketball Game.

This event would not have been possible without the enormous amount of support and donations made by the following sponsors: Friendship Baptist Association, Reverend Charles Stoops, Central Baptist Church, Reverend Hugh Deloach, Whitewater Baptist Church, Oglethorpe, GA, Reverend Chris Hall, Cedar Valley Baptist Church, Montezuma, GA, Reverend Mick Truett, Pleasant Grove, Americus, GA, Reverend Andy Taunton, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Byronville, GA, Reverend Jerry J.
