COACH JIMMY GREEN LEADS TO 99% ATTENDANCE GOAL IN SUMTER COUNTY SCHOOLS In his last media release, Coach Jimmy Green, Attendance Officer for Sumter County Schools, shared that he has a goal of 99% monthly attendance. "August attendance was 98% and I thought we were about to reach our goal. September was a good month with 97% attendance but we want to move up and not settle for any less than 99%. Our schools have proven that we can reach our goal," said Green.
For September there were 2,606 excused absences and 6,677 unexcused absences. His September report indicated 213 excused tardies and 4,720 unexcused tardies. For the month of September there were 689 suspensions with a recorded enrollment of 4,952 students. "As school administrators and school attendance clerks become more aware of certain student patterns, I believe that our numbers will get better. We had only 75 home visits from social workers and 180 phone calls. There were only 160 letters mailed to the recorded address and 120 Student Support Team meetings. Reported were one Truancy Intake Worksheet and only one Truancy Care turned over to DFACS. "These numbers mean very little to the average citizen but they show trends in attendance in our district. I appreciate the increase in awareness of the problem. Students who do not attend school cause us to not attain our vision to become one of the highest achieving rural school districts in Georgia and graduate all students," said Green.
