On September 12, 2011, members of the local 202 chapter of Woodmen of the World visited Central Office of Sumter County Schools for the dedication of a new flag pole and ceremonial raising of a new American Flag. Both the news stainless steel pole and flag were donated by local chapter of Woodmen of The World. "We pride ourselves in what we do for America for our county and city. We must remember the sacrifice of service men and women. Yesterday's reminder of 9/11, was again a chance for all citizens of our country to unite for good," said Mr. Silas Bush, Field Representative of Woodmen of the World. He then presented a plaque to Superintendent Roy Brooks that will soon be affixed to the base of the flag pole. The cement foundation and erection of the new pole was coordinated by Mr. Billy Thompkins, Director of Grounds and Maintenance for Sumter County Schools, and his team of associates.

The plaque reads, "In Honor and Remembrance of the Heroes and Victims in the Fight against Terrorism and to celebrate the Enduring Spirit of All Americans. Presented by Woodmen of the World, Chapter 202.
