Due to a criminal event in Americus earlier this morning that involved a shooting, as a precautionary measure, Sumter County Schools had put several of its schools on lock-down at various times of the day.  However, Sumter County Sheriff’s Department has told us that we can allow all students at all schools to be released. Buses are running throughout the district and all students are, in fact, being released.  There continues to be a police presence in parts of Americus, and some buses may be rerouted.  People in those areas will be given instructions on how to proceed by local law enforcement.  At no time did we feel that students were in any immediate danger.
